State Route 175 was mainly a north - south route running between the Melba Highway at Castella all the way south to the South Gippsland Highway at Korumburra. It was a later addition to the State Route Numbering System, introduced in 1990.

Only half of the designated route was ever signed, between Melba Highway and Main Neerim Road in Neerim. The southern half onwards towards Korumburra was never signed, even though the route had been fully planned.

The entire route follows two-lane single carriageway roads. Dalry Road was and still is an undeclared road managed by the local municipal (Yarra Ranges).

In 1998, the route was replace by numerous C routes, thus removing the route's role as a north - south thoroughfare through the Yarra Valley and South Gippsland.
